Music

Music at Buxworth Primary School

“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything!” – Plato

At Buxworth Primary School we want children to reach their full potential in physical, intellectual, emotional, aesthetic, social and spiritual growth. Therefore Music is taught across all phases using a partnership between classroom teachers, specialist/ peripatetic music teachers, professional performers and a host of other organisations. We feel it is necessary to help us to bring together all of this expertise in a focussed way for the benefit of children in our school.

The children are taught the following skills across all school year groups to ensure that there is complete coverage, progression and continuity in music throughout their primary schooling.

Curriculum Threads:

  • Listening and appreciation of sound
  • Responding to sound
  • Learning to play tuned and un-tuned instruments
  • Using their voices
  • Building a bank of new vocabulary year on year ( see vocabulary progression chart)
  • Composition skills:
    • Building on pitch, rhythm, temp and dynamics
